· Red Granite from Uttar Pradesh is one of the largest selling
granites in Northern India. Deposits of Pinkish Red Granite are
spread over an area of over 11,000 sq. km., in Lalitpur, Jhansi,
Hamirpur and Banda districts of Uttar Pradesh as a part of the Bundelkhand
Granite Complex Deposits which stretches into the neighbouring states
of Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Lalitpur also holds vast deposits
of the popular sandstone variety called Lalitpur Grey and Lalitpur
Yellow.
· Marble in Uttar Pradesh occurs mainly in two districts,
namely Pithoragarh and Mirzapur.
· Agra, the city of the Taj, is also a major Centre for production
of Stone Artwork like inlay, carvings, sculpture; the artisans of
today being the true heirs to the artists of the Taj.
