Arunachal Pradesh

  • Sandstone are found around Kanubari north of Bagapani, Deomali, Kairampur, Khaisang, Miao, Dibang and Vijaynagar etc.

  • Quartzites are found in the Tenga, Miri Formation, and Abor Volcanics

  • Marble bands in the Mishmi Formation, Chilleipam Formation and Tidding limestone , Abor Volcanics, Lohit Valley, Dalai Valley. Serpentinite bands extend from Tidding to Hunli and in Mayi Hill region of Dibang Valley District.


Assam

  • Large potential for quarrying in districts on the Sourthern Bank of Brahmaputra river, as well as in Dhubri, Bongaigon, Barpeta, Kamrup and Sonitpur districts

  • Phyllite, slate, marble and other stones are available in the vicinity of March, Palel, Sangsak, Maokot, Ukhrul and Ching Jaroi etc. all along the Indo -Myanmar border.


Bihar

  • Bihar Granite deposits are spread over and area of 2,235sq kms

  • Major granite varieties are Tiger Skin, Mayurakshi Blue, Sawan Rose, English Teak, Black Cheetah, Black Zebra amongst others.


Chhattisgarh

  • Bastar, Kanker, Dantewara, Mahasamund, Surguja, Raigarh and Rajnandangaon are particularly rich in commercially known granites.

  • A large track along Mahanadi river in Raipur and Janjgir.

  • Marble deposits are available in Bastar and Dantewara districts.

  • Sandstone, Quartzite is available in Bastar and Mahasamund districts.


Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is an important producer of slates, with high quality slates being produced in the districts of Chamba, Mandi and Kullu, with deposits also available in the Simla district.


Jammu & Kashmir

Large deposits of marble have been found at Drugmalla, Zirahama, Oura and Trehgam in Kupwara district of Kashmir. Marble deposits are also found in the Thathri area of Doda district. Slate Stone is found in abundance in the valley of Kashmir.


Kerala

Kerala has substantial deposits of Tropical Green, Paradiso, Kerala White, Pink and Grey Granite.


Maharashtra

The Kamta sandstone occurring in and around Saoner Taluqa of Nagpur district is being quarried in huge quantities and is used as building stone.


Meghalaya

  • Huge deposits of high grade flaggy limestone, occur all along the southern margin of Meghalaya plateau from west Garo Hill district to the eastern part of Jaintia Hill district extending for about 200 km.

  • Granite occurs in the Khasi Hills of which Myllieum, Umroi (Kyrdem) and Weiloi (south Khasi) plutons are noteworthy. The granites are coarse grained, porphyritic rich in K felspar (microcline) which occur as phenocrysts. Large quarriable potential in Hallidayganj and Sonapahar exists which is most suitable for decorative slabs.


Mizoram

Flaggy Limestone deposits are available in Aizawl District. The sandstones of Saipum in Kolasib district are light brown in colour and some times greenish which are massive.


Nagaland

  • Spillite (green-volcanic) deposit in and around Satuza village in Phek district (adjacent to Manipur), massive and hard, jointed and vesicular green volcanic. Moderate sizes of blocks can be available. Plagio-granite deposit at Phonkhuri village (Phek district) - grey in colour, massive, hard and compact , medium to coarse grained. Block sizes available are from 1 to 3 mtre.

  • Marble deposit occur in Phek district in the areas of Pang, Wui, Moya and Moke.

  • Sandstone, limestone with shale/phyllite of Disang Group. Hard, massive and crystalised limestone is in contact with plagio-granite at bottom and volcanics at the top. Sandstone and building stone deposits/occurrences-Tsuuma, New Perern, Jakhama, Kohima, Yoruba, Pfutsero Lake, Mokochung, Botsa, Tuensang etc are the main areas where sandstone and other building stone materials are exposed. Possibilities of getting good sizes of block may be studied. All these deposits are mainly confined to Disang belt with Barail out lairs

  • Limestone deposit at the Mollen village, Moke, Nimi, Wazeho, Lacham etc. (Phek district). Blocks in thickness of 2-5 m are expected to be available in these deposits. Steel grey colour with massive nature. Already at two places quarrying is being carried out. Besides this pyroxenite, basalt, serpentinite, shale eetc. are exposed in and around these areas which needs further geological/exploration work.

  • Other limestone/marble occurrences are near Pang, Wui, Moya, Moke mainly in ophiolite belt.


Uttar Pradesh

  • Red Granite from Uttar Pradesh is one of the largest selling granites in Northern India. Deposits of Pinkish Red Granite are spread over an area of over 11,000 sq. km., in Lalitpur, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Banda and Sonbhadra districts of Uttar Pradesh as a part of the Bundelkhand Granite Complex Deposits which stretches into the neighbouring states of Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

  • Sandstone quarries are present in Tatpur area of Agra District, Madanpur and Rampura areas of Lalitpur and in areas around Mirzapur & Sonbhadra. The popular varieties are called Lalitpur Grey and Lalitpur Yellow.

  • Marble in Uttar Pradesh occurs mainly in two districts, namely Pithoragarh and Mirzapur.

  • Agra, the city of the Taj, is also a major centre for production of Stone Artwork like inlay, carvings, sculpture; the artisans of today being the true heirs to the artists of the Taj.


West Bengal

West Bengal has granite deposits in Purulia, Bankura and Birbhum districts.

  • Purulia District has Pinkish grey-pink-dark grey/block represented by granite, perphyritic granite, granite gneiss. The state also has black granite (such as dolerite, gabbro, diorite etc,) and charnockites- basic granulities. Dimension stone prospect scan be found in the shape of both mounds and ridges.

  • Bankura District has granite deposits in the form of anorthosite and charnockite rock

  • Birbhum District has pink homophanous granite and black granite (basic granulite).
