Slates & Quartzites - Haryana is most famous for its high quality slates that occur mainly in districts
of Rewari and Mahendragarh at Kund, Majra Manethi, Padla, Bujhar, Ganjar, Behali and Rampura Bas. All these
areas are approachable by road and falls on Gurgaon-Narnaul State Highway. These slate deposits have an
exposed strike length of 30 kilometres. The slates in all these localities vary widely in shades from black to
grayish black, greenish grey and multicoloured. Slates are intercalated with silt stone and slaty phylltes. The
Kund slates are one of the best quality slates available in the country. Grey and black colour slates are exposed
in Kund and Behali whereas black to multicolour slates are found in other deposits. The slate is finely granular
and crystalline and characterized by well developed rock cleavage. Practically inexhaustible deposits of quartzites
are found in the State distributed within the narrow, widely isolated strike ridges of the district - Faridabad, Gurgaon,
Rewari, Mahendragarh and Bhiwani. Quartzite from Haryana in general are fairly hard, compact, grey to greyish white,
brownish pink or pinkish white and dirty white in colour and are well jointed. The common varieties of quartzites are
pure, massive, calcareous and ferrugenous. These are fine to medium grained but coarse grained are not uncommon.
Granite - Granite deposits in Haryana occur in districts of Bhiwani and Mahendra Garh. In Bhiwani, , wherein
the group of hillocks located due south and west of Tosham at Dharan, Riwasa, Dhuleri and Nigana Kalan, standing out
as inselberg in dune dominated topography in about 13 Sq. Km. area are composed entirely of intrusive granites with
thin aplite and porphyritic granite bands. The rock is fresh, homogenous, compact, very hard and non-foliated. Colour
varies from light to dark grey, light to dark brown and greenish grey. Tourmaline is found in greyish granite whereas
minute biotite flakes are present in brownish granites. In Mahendra Garh, pinkish white granite gneisses are available in
huge quantities in Dhanota-Dhancholi and Maroli hillocks located about 12 kilometers south-west of Narnaul.
Marble - Sufficient deposits of marble is found in district Mahendragarh located due south and south-west of
Narnaul. The most important localities are Antri-Beharipur, Zainpur, Chappra-Bibipur, Nangal durgu, Islampur and Dhanota-
Dhancholi. Marble is found in variegated colours and banded forms. Banded marble of Antri-Biharipur is of excellent quality.
White marble is available at Rasulpur, Golwa, Gangutana and Musnota also.
